How to Divide Text into Columns in Microsoft Office (MS) Word

When we read news papers, we can observe that the information is devided into number of small columns of text rather than a single large text paragraph. This type paragraph division into different number of columns can be done very easily in MS Word. Pc problem like this can be very tricky for beginners and these columns are refered as Newspaper columns.

To experiment with text column options, follow the steps given bellow..

Open a file consisting of some information. Alternatively, if you dont have ready made text to experiement, just select and copy the following block of information into MS Word and paste there.

You can open documents in many different locations from the Open dialog box in Word. You can open a document on your computer hard disk or on a network drive that you have a connection to. You can also open a document on a network, even if you don't have a connection to a network server, as long as your network supports UNC addresses.

If your company has an intranet, or if you have access to the Internet (for example, if you have a modem and an Internet account through an Internet service provider, or if you are in a corporation and have access through the network), you can open a document located at an HTTP site on the World Wide Web or at an FTP site. If your company has an intranet, you can open documents there. For information about how to set up Internet access, see the Microsoft Office 97 Resource Kit. For information about how to obtain the Office Resource Kit, click.

For documents located on your computer hard disk or on a network drive that you have write access to, you can open a document as a copy if you want to create and work on a copy of the document instead of the original. And regardless of where the document is located, you can open a document as read-only if you want to make sure you don't change the original document.

Now let us try to divide the 2nd paragraph text into 3 different column text. First we need to select the text to be devided into columns. Refer the bellow screen shot for how the selection is made.

Now click the Columns Menu Item from Format Menu. In the Columns dialog box, select Three columns option. You can also set this by using Number of columns option. Refer the screen shot shown bellow.

You can use Line between option to have a physical devider line between columns. You can also use Width and Spacing option to specify individual columns width and the spacing to be used. After making all selections, click OK. Now You can see the paragraph devided into three columns.

When an application crashes in Windows XP, you may receive a request to send an error report to Microsoft. These requests can become a little annoying. Also, error reports can sometimes include part of a document you were working on when the program crashed and you may feel that sending them compromises your privacy somewhat.

Mind you, sending error reports may actually help Microsoft to produce more stable software in the future. The decision to send error reports is up to the individual. You can decide to send reports on a case-by-case basis, or you can choose to disable the error reporting function completely.

To disable Error reporting:
Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop or in the Start menu and select "Properties" to open the System Properties window.

Clicked the "Advanced" tab.

Click on the button labelled "Error Reporting" which is located at the bottom right of the System Properties window. The "Error Reporting" window should appear.

Select the item labelled "Disable error reporting". It is advisable to leave a tick in the check box that says "But notify me when critical errors occur".

Click "OK" to exit the "Error Reporting" window and then click "OK" again to exit System Properties.

You should not be asked to send error reports to Microsoft again, but you will still receive error messages that might help with troubleshooting.

To enable error reporting again at a later date, navigate to the "Error Reporting" window as described above and select "Enable error reporting".

Turn Off Pop-up Blockers That Interfere With The Facebook Contacts Import

On some occasions users may experience problems importing Facebook contacts due to interference from a Pop-Up Blocker running as a part of their web browser. To prevent this, please try disabling any Pop-Up Blockers that are running on your computer. Then try to import your Facebook contacts again.

Pop-Up Blockers may be running as a part of your web browser, your Firewall or even your Toolbar. You will probably only need to temporarily turn off your Pop-Up Blockers while you import your Facebook contacts. Once the import is complete, you should be able to reactivate your Pop-Up Blockers.

In order to turn your Pop-Up Blocker on and off in Internet Explorer 8, please do the following:

In Internet Explorer 8 click on Tool in the menu options, then select Internet Options.
Click on the Privacy tab at the top of the "Internet Options" window.
Under the "Pop-up Blocker" option, remove the check mark next to Turn on Pop-up Blocker.
Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.

In order to turn your Pop-Up Blocker on and off in Mozilla Firefox, please do the following:

In Mozilla Firefox click on the Tools menu, then select Options.
Click on the Content tab at the top of the "Options" window.

This is due to the lack of any strong SEO or might be because of having poor SEO on their blog. Below are those 5 points I found out which might affect your search engine rankings. I hope they will be helpful to you.

1. Your robots.txt File

This file is a file where you can define whether you want to allow search engines to crawl your pages or not. Go to your domain.com and check to see if you are disallowing certain directories or post or an entire site. No matter how strong your SEO is, if you are stopping search engine crawlers to index your site, then you might end up getting your site blocked from those engines.

2. Your Navigation

Double check if your navigation across all the pages of your website is good. If you are having flash or more Java-scripts for your links then you might have less chances of getting those interior pages indexed.
Above all, your site pages must be easy to navigate and should not take more than 3 clicks to reach to the original content as said by some SEO masters.

3. Your Domain Age

One thing any Internet user should know is how to change IP Address. In this tutorial I will explain how this can be done in Windows XP/ Server 2003. I will not go to explain when you are going to need to change IP address or what value you should set the new IP to be. I only want to show the steps to do it. Before proceeding I recommend that you check what your current IP address is and write it down. Here is how you can do that.

- Default gateway. IP address of your router's default gateway.
In Use the following DNS server addresses , enter all the IP addresses for the DNS servers your router uses.

You know, I had all those photos from a recent trip to Rome, Italy, laying around and I thought it should be possible to make a few bucks off of them. Enter micro stock agencies. Micro stock sites have stirred up the traditional market for stock photography over the last three years. What's the idea here? Rather than charging $100 or more for a photo, on many of those sites you can get high quality images for less than $10, sometimes as low as $1!

With a payout of perhaps 25 to 50 cents per image this is not very attractive for professional photographers but an amateur can make decent money this way and should at least be able to finance her hobby. And remember, this is the Internet we are talking about: Make it up on volume. 25 cents per image downloaded may not sound like much but if you have several hundred or even a thousand decent and usable images, all of them submitted to the big micro stock sites even a paltry 25 cents per download can add up nicely.

What you need

The modern meaning of the word "spam" has nothing to do with spiced ham. In the early 1990's, a skit by British comedy group Monty Python led to the word's common usage. "The SPAM Skit" follows a couple struggling to order dinner from a menu consisting entirely of Hormel's canned ham.

Repetition is key to the skit's hilarity.

The actors cram the word "SPAM" into the 2.5 minute skit more than 104 times! This flood prompted Usenet readers to call unwanted newsgroup postings "spam." The name stuck.

Spammers soon focused on e-mail, and the terminology moved with them. Today, the word has come out of technical obscurity. Now, "spam" is the common term for "Unsolicited Commercial E-Mail", or "UCE."

Why Does Bad Spam Happen to Good People?

Chances are, you've been spammed before. Somehow, your e-mail address has found it's way into the hands of a spammer, and your inbox is suffering the consequences. How does this happen? There are several possibilities.

Backstabbing Businesses.

Businesses often keep lists of their customers' e-mail addresses. This is a completely legitimate practice and, usually, nothing bad comes of it. It didn't work for the phone companies, and it won't work for e-mail marketers. But, some spammers still keep their own friends-and-family-style e-mail lists. Compiled from the addresses of other known spammers, and people or businesses that the owner has come across in the past, these lists are still illegitimate. Why? Only you can give someone permission to send you e-mail. A friend-of-a-friend's permission won't cut it.

Stop The Flood to Your Inbox

Already drowning in spam? Try using your e-mail client's filters - many provide a way to block specific e-mail addresses. Each time you're spammed, block the sender's address. Spammers skip from address to address, and you may be on many lists, but this method will at least slow the flow.

Also, use more than one e-mail address, and keep one "clean." Many netizens find that this technique turns the spam flood into a trickle. Use one address for only spam-safe activities like e-mailing your friends, or signing on with trustworthy businesses. Never use your clean address on the web! Get a free address to use on the web and in chat rooms.

If nothing else helps, consider changing screen names, or opening an entirely new e-mail account. When you do, you'll start with a clean, spam-free slate. This time, protect your e-mail address!

Stay Off Spammed Lists in the Future.

Want to surf the web without getting sucked into the spam-flood? Prevention is your best policy. Don't use an easy-to-guess e-mail address. Keep your address clean by not using it for spam-centric activities. Don't post it on any web pages, and don't use it in chat rooms or newsgroups.

Before giving your clean e-mail address to a business, check the company out. Are sections of its user agreement dedicated to anti-spam rules? Does a privacy policy explain exactly what will be done with your address? Startups are also starting to get more creative with the business model (which was previously severely lacking) as well as the technology solution. At the same time they are learning to add privacy and best practices functions. Remember much of the time receiving the SMS message costs, and some of the services like free bulk messaging could have some not-so-nice spam potential. Be careful about signing up for any ol’ service and check out this list of good characteristics of SMS web services.

1). TeleFlip: TeleFlip has always been a favorite way to send “free” texts via email: ‘phone number’@teleflip.com. They still offer that service which they now call FlipOut, but they are also trying to turn their technology into a working business. I haven’t been able to test the new service yet (shown at DEMO), which is supposed to be out sometime this month, but they say it forwards your emails to your SMS inbox for free — 5,000 messages for per month. Hopefully they have a good management tool, as email spam can fill an SMS inbox pretty quickly and receiving text fees still apply.

Peekamo: Founded just November 2006 and based in Toronto according to their web site, Peekamo says they are different than other web-based SMS free sites, as both the receiver and sender don’t pay for the message. How do they manage that? — they say ad-sponsored messages, and using a protocol called short message peer to peer, (unlike the more common email-SMS method). When I sent a message from the web site to myself, it was sponsored by Sharp and had a link to Sharp’s web site www.moretosee.com. It’s still in beta, but is adding other social features.

3). Gizmo SMS: SIPphone has more than its fair share of sweet mobile services like the Gizmo Project, and earlier this month they also added a free web-based SMS service. The service works for dozens of countries and has a model ‘terms of service’ and privacy assurance sections. It’s not rocket science, but shows how these services are easy enough to create that they can be used to market the company’s other money-making solutions.

4). TxtDrop: TxtDrop founder 22-year-old Nate Kapitanski got some flack over his SMS MySpace widget and web service last year — the site didn’t launch with privacy terms and didn’t have an About section describing the company or its goals. He says the whole thing was a learning experience which helped make the site much better. As a result he added a privacy policy, email blocking, limited the number of messages that could be sent per minute, and says your phone number is now hidden in the MySpace code. Kapitanski, who only works on the project part time, also recently released a Mac OS dashboard SMS widget and says he is working on a Vista text gadget that could be out as early as April. There still isn’t a clear about section, but if you email the info address on the site, Kapitanski will probably oblige you on details you want to know.

5). Your carrier: Yes, its true, some carriers have some limited web-to SMS and email to SMS services. On Verizon Wireless’ vtext.com site you can send a text to a Verizon wireless cell phone user, and send an SMS via email to “verizon wireless phone number”@vtext.com. Sprint has a similar web based service to text Sprint customers. They still get some money the more times people text using most solutions, so why not get more people to text their customers.

Have you noticed that when you try to use some of those "send free text message to anyone’s mobile" services, half the time they don’t work? Well, most of them never worked for me and all I tried to do was send a text message from my computer at home to my Verizon cell phone! So I went ahead and tried out about 10 to 15 different services online and ended up with a list of ONLY 4 that actually worked.
Here’s my list of sites that I use now to send text messages online to mobile phones:

1. txt2day.com – Easy as heck to use, simply enter you 10 digit number, email (optional), your provider, and the text message. The reason this service is one of my favorite is for two reasons: first, if you’re sending a message to someone and you don’t know their wireless provider, you can lookup the provider based on the phone number and secondly, if someone starts to spam you using the service, you can have your number blocked so you don’t get any messages from that number.

2. Google Send To Phone – With Google’s service, you can actually count on it working. It’s very simple to use and works well. It unfortunately does not have the options like txt2day, but at least it works. However, unlike txt2day, you can install an extension for IE and Firefox to send messages directly from your browser!

3. SMS Everywhere – This is by far the simplest of all the text message sending services. All you have to fill out is the number and a message! The cool thing about his service which is an advantage over the other two is that you don’t have to know the provider at all, it figures it out for you! That’s pretty great in my book! Simply put in the number, type your message and you’re done!

4. Text’em - This service has no clear advantage over the other services and actually requires more steps, i.e. provider, email address, security code, etc, but at least it works!

All of these services are for the United States only, meaning you can only send text messages to US cell phones. Of course, you can only SEND for free, the person who receives them will be charged for incoming text messages depending on their plan.
Also, if you have an Internet-enabled device such as an iPhone, etc, you can launch these sites from the mobile browser. However, some may not work, so you can check out an application from txtDrop.com that lets you install a iPhone app for sending text messages from your iPhone.

There are plenty of ways to generate attention for your web site, but you’ll also want to make sure you’re covering the basics too. We talked to web site marketing expert Celeste Bishop, who runs Bishop Market Resources, to learn what you can do right now, this week, to optimize your site.

1. Figure out what key words and phrases are going to be important to your site. Bishop suggests brainstorming to come up with a list of what you believe your prospects and customers would put into a search engine to locate your products and services.
Then run them through a tool such as WordTracker, the Google keyword tool or Yahoo Overture Keyword Selector Tool to see what the volume of search activity is and find alternative phrasing to add to your list.

Next, take each page that’s important to you — not the Contact Us page or Site Map — and make sure that keyword or phrase is used prominently. Use it early on in the text and at the end of the page. Put it into a heading with an H1 tag or a subhead with an H2 tag. But, she advises, “Don’t overuse it. Don’t change the way the content is reading, so it sounds ‘horsy.’ It’s better to have good content than have keyword phrases sprinkled in.”
Also make sure it appears in your metatags behind the page. Yes, metatags still have value — though not from a search engine ranking standpoint. “You have to think of a metatag as a kind of ad,” says Bishop. Search engines use that to show additional text as part of the organic listing. “If you’ve got a metatag that isn’t compelling and doesn’t have keywords in it, [people] won’t click through even if you do rank well.”

2. Make it your “career” to get links into your site. That includes getting links to more than just your home page and using your keywords as part of the anchor text. To get links, Bishop said, write articles and place them on other sites. Then make sure it includes a resource box or bio at the end of the article that includes your URL in the first line and something that will compel readers to go to your site in the second line, along with another link. 3. Start a blog and participate in other blogs. These two go hand in hand. By “participate,” Bishop doesn’t mean leaving comments just to be able to include a link back to your own site. She means becoming part of the “ecosystem” of the community. “Over time the people whose blogs you’re commenting in will notice you and start making references back to you.”

The value of blogging on a reasonably consistent basis — aside from being able to share your expertise and opinions with the literate world — is that search engines will index your site more often. Bishop says small business sites, especially, can go for a long time without being indexed. Google does that by design. “They know that the site exists. It’s known as the Google Sandbox. But they want to make sure you’re not a pornographer or a bad actor, basically. You can get around that by having what are known as ‘authority links’ coming back to you.”

For example, if you’re writing about tennis, and you participate in the important blogs in the world of tennis, having those links coming back to your site would be regarded as authority links. “That’s a clue to Google to get you out of that sandbox,” says Bishop. “Links are the new gold standard in managing to get ranking on the search engines.”
4. Add something interactive to the site that will make people come back over and over. Bishop said one client, a high-end real estate finance organization, added a calculator where people can figure out how their taxes would benefit by doing something with the firm. “People come back repeatedly to use it.”
Besides being fun and having potential viral implications, interactive devices help your site to “get embedded in [visitors'] psyches,” said Bishop. “I constantly have clients tell me that the difference in their sales process from this is like night and day. People talk to them as if they already have a relationship.” This can shorten the sales cycle and reduce the amount of effort you have to put forward to build credibility with potential customers or clients.

5. Don’t worry about how many people come to the site but with how long they stay. That means focusing on those areas that will encourage people to hang out longer. To measure this, Bishop recommends Google Analytics because, although it has problems, she said, “it’s free.”

6. Forget about email newsletters. Bishop said problems with spam filters and firewalls are making this web site staple a waste of time. “You’d be better off having a blog that you put newsletter-type content in and have people subscribe to it with an RSS feed.”

What about those newsletter sites that promise to do everything possible to make sure your email gets delivered? Bishop said just because a newsletter delivery report has few rejections, that doesn’t mean the email is getting through to the subscriber. “They don’t measure it the right way,” she said. “I do test studies. Most firewalls won’t give you the courtesy of a bounce-back. It’ll look like it went through, but it gets stopped at the firewall.”

Apple prepares three versions of iPad 2 for 2011, says sources

Apple is expected to release three versions of iPad 2, supporting either or a combination of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA, for 2011 with mass production to start as early as the later half of January. Apple will ship about 500,000-530,000 units to channels in January with shipment ratio of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA models at 3:4:3, according to industry sources, citing upstream component makers.

The sources pointed out that about 60-65% of current iPad shipments are 3G models, indicating that consumers prefer models that are able to connect to the Internet all the time, therefore Apple is aiming to work even more closely with telecom carriers by offering more wireless solutions for iPad 2 to satisfy market demand.

In addition to wireless functions, Apple is also working on strengthening the iPad 2's anti-smudge and anti-reflective treatments in order to compete against Kindle and attract more consumers, the sources noted.

Since Apple's upstream supply chain is estimated to ship about 16 million iPads in 2010, the sources expects about 2-3 million iPad units of inventory will remain in the channel rolling over into 2011. Since Apple will gradually stop the production of iPad after January and launch iPad 2 by the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second, the remaining iPad inventory should be able to satisfy demand during that period of time.

As for iPad 2, the sources estimate that the device's shipments in 2011 will reach 40 million units, accounting for 65-75% of the global tablet PC market.

1. Carry your Laptop or Pack It Away?

Keep it with you at all times. It goes with you on the flight as carry-on baggage. Do not store it in the overhead storage area; it could get knocked around by someone else. Absolutely do not put your laptop in with your other baggage. Baggage handlers aren’t expecting expensive electronics to be in the stored baggage areas and you can’t expect it to be treated as a fragile object.

2. Visual Inspection (Hand checking)

Google is rolling out a new feature that lets you sign into multiple Google accounts at once. This is a pretty great feature, and one that will save many people a lot of time.

As far as multiple login goes right now, you can currently be signed into only two separate accounts at once — one Google Account, and one Google Apps account. This lets you be logged into your personal stuff, and your work stuff at the same time.
Until now though, there was no way for you to be signed into multiple Google Accounts — say, three Gmail accounts. People maintain multiple accounts for various reasons, now switching between them is a whole lot easier.
In supported applications, like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Sites, Google Reader, Google Voice, App Engine and Google Code, there will be a dropdown that lets you choose which account you want to look at. I suspect it will be something like Google Analytics, where you can choose which account you want to view.
To set up this functionality, you have to visit your Google Account page, and enable multiple logins — you may not see it yet, but according to Google Operating System, it’s on the way.

We have seen some IP tutorials where is well explained how to change IP address but we think that they are incomplete because there is not with any word mention any difference between computers with dynamic and static IP.

As first on question how to change IP address? and can i change my IP address we can give you 2 answers and actually 2 solutions.

First solution is changing IP address through command prompt and releasing and renewing your IP address assigned to you from ISP.
Remember that it is only valid if your ISP assign you dynamical IP address. Dynamical IP address means that you will obtain another IP address every time you are connected to the internet. If you have static IP address then you will with this method be able to renew your IP address but your IP address (static IP address) will be not changed. If you have static IP address then theonly way for changing IP address is calling your ISP and give them good reason why you want to change IP address.
Back to first method for more details regarding answer on question how to change ip address. To change computer IP address (WIndows XP):

    * Go to "Start", "Run"
    * type "cmd"
    * In black window open type "ipconfig /release"
    * type "ipconfig /renew"

Alternative method for changing IP address which will give you same results for Windows XP is through:

    * "Start"
    * "Settings"
    * "Network Connections"
    * Into Networks Connection window and you will see your internet connection (something like Local Area Connection )
    * Select it and with right mouse chose "Disable". Wait a few moments until process has been finished
    * then again select your internet connection with right mouse and click on "Enable"

    * In next window you have option between "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Use the following IP Address"
    * You need almost always to select "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" to change IP address automatically
    * Finally click on "OK" and your IP address should be changed

Note that you need to type everything without quotes in our examples above.
Import: Your IP address will be renewed in any situation using methods above but will be change only if your ISP assign you dynamical ip address each time you are connected to the internet.

Log into the router's admin console. (Often http://192.168.1.1/)
Release the IP address. (Method varies by router manufacturer)
Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem.
Leave off overnight.
Turn everything back on.

If you are using a cable/DSL modem and a router, you may wish to connect your computer directly to the cable/DSL modem. Please note that this could significantly impact your system security. This allows your ISP's DHCP to issue you a new (hopefully changed) IP address based of the (hardware) MAC address of your computer's ethernet card.
If all the above has not worked to change your IP address and you have a router, check and see if there is a "Clone MAC Address" option. Using it should change your IP address; however, you'll only be able to do it once (in most cases).
These will not work in all cases. If all else fails contact your internet service provider (ISP) and ask them if they are able to change your IP address or how long your connection needs to be off for your IP address to change.
If you trying to change your IP address because you are just trying to access web based forums you may wish to attempt to configure your internet browser to use a proxy server.

Whether you use free webmails such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc or you use POP3 based emails such as the one provided by your internet service provider, you can add your signature to the email you send using these email services.

Generally as far as emails are concerned, a signature doesn’t refer to your personal signature that you put on your cheques. Instead an email signature refers to your name, address, phone numbers and other contact details that you want to add.
Here let us see the steps to add a signature to emails in MS Outlook or Outlook Express
To create a signature and to make changes to an already created signature outlook has options. You can configure outlook to add signatures below every email that you send using outlook or only for specific emails.
You can also create multiple signatures. For example one signature for office use, one signature for friends and another for family etc. For this, you should have many email accounts.
You can even put your signature in a text file or an HTML file and configure outlook to use this file as signature. A text file can only contain text information where as an HTML file can include images, your photo, your company’s logo or a scanned image of your original signature or a bigger font etc. So using HTML file is the best way to include signatures.
How to create signature?

Open Outlook Express or MS Outlook. Click on ‘Tools->Options’. Select the ‘Signatures’ tab and click on ‘New’ button.
In the ‘Edit Signature’ section the ‘Text’ option will be selected by default. In that box, you can key in your signature details.
If your signature in a text file or an HTML file then select the ‘File’ radio button and click on ‘Browse’ button’ to select the signature file.
Now select the ‘Add Signature to all outgoing message’ checkbox and click on ‘OK’.

To use different signature for different email accounts

First, create many signatures as mentioned in the above paragraph.
Open outlook and click ‘Tools->Options’ and select the ‘Signature’ tab.
select the first signature in the list and click on ‘Advanced’ button then select the email account that should use that signature and click on ‘OK’.
Follow the same step again to configure your other signatures for other accounts.

To add signature only to specific emails

Outlook will usually add the signature to all the outgoing emails without asking you. If you do not want to attach the signature to all emails then select ‘Tools->Options’ and select ‘Signature’ tab.
Now remove the check box in ‘Add Signatures to all outgoing message’ option and click ‘OK’.
From now on whenever you send emails the signatures will not be inserted automatically.
To insert signature to specific emails just click on ‘Insert->Signature’ menu option and select which signature you want to insert.

To add your REAL signature in emails

In a blank white paper put your real signature. Then use your scanner to scan the signature and save it as an image. For example you can save it as a sig.jpg file.
Let us assume that you have saved your signature image as ‘sig.jpg’ and saved under ‘c:\myfiles’ folder.
Now you have to create an HTML file for your signature. To create an HTML file for your signature open your Notepad application. And type the following.
Now save the file by choosing ‘File->Save’ in notepad. Save the file as “mysign.htm”. Note that your filename should be between two double inverted commas. If you do not use the double inverted commas then notepad will save your file as misigh.htm.txt
Now open outlook and select ‘Tools->Options’ and click on ‘Signature’ tab.
Now select the ‘File’ radio button and click on ‘Browse’ button and select teh mysign.htm file.
Click ‘OK’ and then check the ‘Add signatures to all outgoing message’ and then click ‘OK’ again.
Now your real signature will be added to the bottom of each email you send.

Using the Plus Sign and Additional Characters
The third trick for extending the use of your Gmail account is the ability to add extra characters to the end of your username by inserting a plus sign, “+” after your name. Google does not recognize these characters but Gmail search filters do. The characters after the plus sign can be either letters or numbers. So myname+abcde@gmail.com or myname+abcde@googlemail.com will end up in the same Inbox as myname@gmail.com.
